Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
- This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
- This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
- All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
- All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
- Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Privacy Statement
The East African Medical Journal (EAMJ) is committed to protecting the privacy, confidentiality, and integrity of personal data entrusted to the journal by authors, reviewers, editors, and readers.
Data Sharing
The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party. EAMJ does not sell, rent, or trade personal data. Personal information may be shared only when necessary and strictly for journal operations, including: online hosting and publishing platforms (e.g. Africa Journals Online – AJOL), indexing and abstracting services and plagiarism detection, ethical screening, and editorial management systems
All third parties are expected to adhere to appropriate data protection and confidentiality standards.
Data Retention
Personal data are retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill editorial, legal, archival, and scholarly purposes. Published articles and associated metadata form part of the permanent scholarly record and may be retained indefinitely. Unpublished submission data may be retained for administrative, audit, or ethical oversight purposes.
Copyright
Upon acceptance for publication, authors are required to transfer copyright to the East African Medical Journal in accordance with international copyright standards and the Copyright Act, Chapter 130, Laws of Kenya, unless otherwise stated.
EAMJ grants readers the right to access, read, and use published content in accordance with the journal’s publishing license. Any reuse, reproduction, distribution, or translation of published material must comply with the terms of the applicable license and must acknowledge the original source. Where open access or alternative licensing applies, the specific license terms will be clearly indicated within the published article.
Data Security
EAMJ implements reasonable technical and organizational measures to safeguard personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, loss, or disclosure. Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel involved in editorial and publishing activities.
